Having grown up in a house that had a basement full of printing equipment and hand set type (think Gutenberg), including various presses, some weighing over a ton, it was hard not to get ink in my blood. My father Norman had been interested in printing since he was a boy and as an adult took printing on as a serious hobby. My first "chargeable" printing order was for some cards for a fellow class-mate in the sixth grade. The kid never did pay me - first lesson learned!
After graduating from high school my dad and I made a full fledged business out of the hobby and the rest as they say is history. Cordes Printing has now been in business for 40 years and still going strong.
On the personal side, I've been married to my best friend Wilma since 1981 and we have 3 sons and 1 daughter (plus some wonderful daughter's-in-law). Though I have been trying to pare down the pets at home, we still have a dog (Dixie who can often be found at Cordes Printing as our "security officer") a cat, 2 miniature donkeys and a flock of chickens. You haven't lived until you have had fresh eggs from free ranging chickens.
Q & A
Q: What's your favorite book?
A: The Bible. I try to read something from it every day.
Q: What's your favorite physical activity?
A: The treadmill and strength training. Although I also enjoy outdoor work of all kinds, especially cutting, splitting and stacking firewood that heats the wood stove all winter.
Q: What's your power tool of preference?
A: Probably anything with a gas engine. Riding mower, log splitter, chain saw, snow blower and when I get the opportunity to use one, a back hoe or skid loader.
Q: What's the last book you read?
A: Younger Next Year. Helped convince me to get back to exercising on a regular basis.
Q: It's Friday, 8:00PM. What are you doing?
A: If it's Spring time or at least warmer weather I'm probably at Home Depot getting something for Saturday's project. Otherwise I'm kicking back with my wife and daughter watching a movie at home.
Q: What do you like to cook?
A: Grilling is my favorite. I have a gas grill and 2 Weber Kettle grills, plus a chicken BBQ rack. I love slow cooking/smoking ribs or shoulder butts for pulled pork.
